‘Kakizome’ the First Calligraphy of the Year

‘Kakizome’ the First Calligraphy of the Year

On the second of January,in Japan we write the first calligraphy of the year called’Kakizome’ 書 き 初 め. This is an old tradidion from the Edo period. In Japan we write a kanji or a poem that inspires you something for this year.

I wrote the kanji ‘ Warau’ which means ‘ Smile’.  because I think it is important to remember it always. There is a proverb that says ‘the smile is the best medicine’. And I belive this is true.

Then the day of Dondoyakifestival,we burn this calligraphy. What word would you wrtie for you this year?
